"It's hard to choose a favorite among so many great tracks, but "The Greatest Love of All" is one of the best, most powerful songs ever written about self-preservation, dignity. Its universal message crosses all boundaries and instills one with the hope that it's not too late to better ourselves. Since... it's impossible in this world we live in to empathize with others, we can always empathize with ourselves. It's an important message, crucial really. And it's beautifully stated on the album."

the story i heard about this song is that whitney wrote it about her unrequited love with robert deniro. apparently, deniro, a notorious "sista-chaser" was pursuing the young chantuse...sending her teddybears with 50 000 dollar diamond earings etc. but whit's folks were all like "you aint havin' none o' that cracker travis bickle, twice-your-age skeeve-miester" and put the kybosh on the whole affair before it could get off the ground. it truly would have been "the greatest love of all", but alsa...t'was never meant to be....*sigh*
